Presided over by the wonderful Bogdan Tončič and the lovely Ivi Svetlik, the Kenda Manor (in Slovene, Kendov Dvorec is pronounced Kendow Dvorets) is a haven of quiet luxury nestled in the Idrijan hills. Although it is only an hour's drive from Ljubljana, you feel as though you have been spirited away to an altogether more romantic time and place.
Originally a rich family
farmhouse owned for hundreds of years by the Kenda family,
this grand old building has been lovingly restored, ensuring that the modern utilities are perfectly integrated with the original structure. Furthermore, all of the furniture,
from the enormous old beds, huge wardrobes,
chairs, tables - everything - has been reclaimed and restored from
original 19th century items found in the locality.
The effect is set off by the detailing of Idrijan lace
adorning the table cloths, curtains and bed linen, resulting
in some of the most charming and comfortable hotel rooms
we have ever seen. The house sits in a beautifully landscaped garden above the town, providing views across the river and down to the town below. |

Your wedding at Kendov Dvorec |
 Probably the most accomplished wedding venue in Slovenia, Kendov Dvorec will infuse your day with understated, easy-going luxury. Although it is also one of our very best hotels, it's as if from the beginning it was designed to set the scene for the perfect wedding.
But: if you're looking for fireworks, gimicks and razzamatazz, Kendov Dvorec is probably not for you.
Then again, if you want an elegant but laid-back manor house, stuffed full of local antique furniture, fragrant, flower-speckled gardens, the friendliest and most professional staff in Slovenia, one of the country's best chefs (see below) and sheer, proper romance... then Kendov Dvorec definitely is for you.
- Ceremony - your wedding vows can be swapped during the clement months in the hotel's grounds, or in the main dining hall during the winter months.
- Blessing - we can arrange a religious blessing in the local church... and we can arrange for a horse and carriage to take you there.
- Music - A violinist or accordianist before and after the ceremony... and a band for the evening, of course.
- Flowers - anything from fresh local flowers, picked that day, to beautiful arrangements by Slovenia's best florist.
- Gifts - for your guests: specially labelled bottles of local grappa for the men; framed Idrijan lace for the women (or the other way around, of course).

The cuisine and banquet |
 The chef for your wedding will be the hotel's own Franci Pivk - one of Slovenia's most famous (and one of our favourites). Franci's cuisine can simply be described as local, traditional dishes, given a modern touch. Notice that I didn't say, "twist" - he doesn't play games like so many of today's celebrity cooks: Franci really does let the ingredients express themselves. Or, even simpler: the lamb tastes of lamb.
We will work with you and Franci to perfect your wedding banquet, and of course, the nibbles and late night snacks you will need to sustain you throughout your best day ever.

 However, there is someone else we have to introduce you to - Bogdan Tončič.
Bogdan basically runs what you might call the front of house... or in this case, the front of manor house. It is Bogdan who will greet you on your arrival, see to your every need during your stay, ensure that everything runs as smooth as silk during the Big Day, explain the dishes to those who want to know, introduce and describe wines being served, help you to your room if you imbibe rather more than you meant to, and wave goodbye to you on your departure.
Bogdan, as we say, is The Man.
And finally, there's Ivi Svetlik, the owner and visionary behind the concept of Kendov Dvorec. She really does want the best for you. You'll see. |

Accommodation
 Kendov Dvorec itself has just eleven guest rooms, so if you would like to only invite a very select few to your nuptuals, it is nigh on perfect. Each of the rooms is named after one of the Kenda family's ancestors, and each is decorated and furnished in original local antiques and materials (where possible - the fire alarms are actually 21st century). And to add that final, elegant touch, there are many fine examples of Idrijan lace adorning all of the rooms.
Of course, you might well be blessed with a huge entourage of family and friends - and you'll need somewhere to put them. Fear not, a few kilometres away are the Zelinc tourist farm and the Cerkno hotel, both of which offer some very nice accommodation (which we'll arrange, natch). |
Entertainment and activities
 This being Slovenia, there are tons of activities and 'relaxivities' to be had:
- River sports, including kayaking, white water rafting, fly-fishing
- Cycling - road and trail riding
- Wine tasting, either at Kendov Dvorec, or a winery in the Vipava Valley
- Horse riding
- Hiking, trekking, walking, ambling
- Guided tours - including lace making or the mercury mine
- Swimming in the Idrjica lido
- Cookery class at the hotel
